Wife Won't Kiss Me: What It Really Means

When a wife stops kissing you, the kiss has often started to feel like a request, or distance has built up slowly. Rule out simple causes first, stop asking with your whole body, and give her kisses that ask for nothing.

Key takeaways

  • A real kiss is hard to fake, so it's often the first thing to go.
  • Rule out the simple stuff: breath, beard, a cold sore, a sore tooth.
  • Stop the lean-in. She feels the request even when you say nothing.

  • Kiss her forehead or her hand, then let it go.
  • If she turns away, smile and make it cost her nothing.
  • Never take a kiss she hasn't offered.

You lean in to kiss her goodbye at the door and she turns her head. Your lips land on her cheek, or somewhere near her ear. "Have a good day." She's already looking for her keys.

Some men can go months without sex and cope. Losing the kiss is different. It was the small thing that said you were still hers, and now you stand in the driveway feeling stupid about it.

You're far from the only husband who has felt that. Here's what's usually going on, and how to make kissing you feel easy for her again.

What's Really Going On

A proper kiss is close. Faces together, breath together, nowhere to hide. You can go through the motions of a lot of things in a marriage, but a real kiss is hard to fake, so it's often the first thing to go when she feels distant, pressured, or both.

Often the kiss has started to mean something else. If kissing her usually leads to a wandering hand or a hopeful look toward the bedroom, a kiss turns into a question she has to answer. Turning her cheek is easier than saying no to the whole evening.

And sometimes it's distance that built up slowly. In the program I talk about the husband who became safe: kind, careful, always checking her mood. She can love that man and feel no pull toward him. Module 3 is called Stop Being Safe. Start Being Solid. for that reason.

Rule out the simple stuff first. Breath, a scratchy beard, a cold sore, a sore tooth. Ask her, lightly, once. It might be nothing to do with the marriage at all.

What to Do About It

Step 1 of 5

Step 1: Stop asking with your whole body

The lean-in at the door. The pause. The hopeful face. Module 5 describes pressure as the moment "she feels your hope. Your waiting. Your internal lean-in." She feels the request even when you say nothing.

Step 2 of 5

Step 2: Give her three seconds of eye contact

When you see her after work, look at her for three seconds before you say anything. Smile. Then carry on with your evening. No lean, no follow-up.

Step 3 of 5

Step 3: Kiss her somewhere that asks for nothing

Her forehead as you pass. The top of her head while she's reading. A kiss on the back of her hand in the car. Then let it go. Small, daily and going nowhere is the point.

Step 4 of 5

Step 4: If she turns away, make it cost nothing

From the program's toolkit: if you try to kiss her and get a dry, closed-lip response, smile, pull back slightly and whisper:

No sulk. No cold shoulder. That freedom is what makes her feel safe enough to come back.

Step 5 of 5

Step 5: Let a kiss be a kiss

When she does kiss you properly, enjoy it and let it end. Don't turn it into the start of something.

Module 5 of Passion Without Poison, Touch That Pulls Her In, covers what to do when she starts to soften, and why rushing in breaks it.

What NOT to Do

  • Don't keep count out loud. "When did you last kiss me properly?" turns a kiss into a debt.
  • Don't take a kiss she hasn't offered, or hold her there when she turns away.
  • Don't trade for it with chores, flowers or a sudden burst of niceness.
  • Don't go cold to make a point. Holding back affection only teaches her that closeness with you is a fight.

If there's fear, pressure or coercion in your relationship, from either side, please talk to a counselor or a family violence support service. If low desire or erection problems are part of the picture for either of you, start with a doctor.

What Men Notice When the Pressure Goes

“A few weeks ago at the door before my wife left for the night she came close and kissed me on the mouth. First time in months.”

Boris C.

“This might sound crazy but for me this is only 2 days since I joined this and watched only first 3 videos. In the bed she reached out and gave me kiss, some small talk and then she hugged me from behind.”

Tomas B., day 2

“I'm on the 4th day now, and I have to say that yesterday was ground breaking for me. SHE CAME UP TO ME AND HUGGED ME! I almost melted bro! It has been years since she, on her own accord, has came up and hugged me.”

Lee B., day 4

Questions men ask

Why won't my wife kiss me?

Common reasons: kissing has become a lead-in to sex, so it feels like a question she has to answer; there's distance or an unresolved hurt between you; or something simpler, like breath, a scratchy beard or feeling unwell. Ask her gently, once, and listen to the answer.

How do I get my wife to kiss me again?

Take the pressure off. Stop leaning in hopefully, give her small kisses that ask for nothing, hold eye contact a moment longer, and if she turns away say "Not now? Fair enough" and mean it. Let her come to you.

Is no kissing worse than no sex?

For many men it hurts more, because a kiss is closeness with nothing else attached. That's also why kissing tends to come back once touch stops feeling like a request.

Is Passion Without Poison red pill or manipulation?

No. There are no tricks, mind games or power plays, and one of the first lessons is called "Don't Be a Dick. Be a King." It rules out going cold, withholding affection and treating your marriage as you against her. It works by changing how you carry yourself at home, and it isn't a substitute for professional help if there's abuse in the relationship.

What does it cost?

It's $47, one payment, with lifetime access and no subscription. You get 6 video modules (155 minutes of content), 6 bonus resources and free updates, with instant access after purchase.

Will my wife know I bought it?

Maybe, and that's fine. There's nothing in it you'd need to hide. If she finds out, what she finds is her husband working on himself and on the two of you, without asking her to do a thing. Most women aren't upset to discover that. More often it's something she's been quietly hoping for. It runs in the S&J app with instant access, and it's billed as SJ FITNESS.
